About The Position

Bethel School District is seeking appropriately licensed teacher candidates for its High School Summer School Credit Recovery program, serving Willamette and Kalapuya High School students at Willamette High School. This program offers students an opportunity to earn back core subject area credit in Math, Science, ELA, and Social Studies. Staff support students' academic and social-emotional learning to strengthen their foundation for success and help them graduate on-time. Students can enroll in a morning session, afternoon session, or a double session. Classes are 3.5 hours, Monday-Friday, for 3 weeks. The program includes prep, planning, and classroom move-in days on June 17 and 18, with sessions running from June 22 to July 10. Teachers will collaborate with Summer School staff to create and teach engaging, student-centered classes, supporting both academic credit recovery and social-emotional development. The role requires deep compassion for students, strong instructional techniques for diverse learners, and a high drive to encourage students through productive struggles.

Requirements

  • Possess an Oregon Teaching License valid for assignment by start of the summer session or have the ability to be licensed by Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission by the start of the 2026 Summer School Program
  • Ability to implement Culturally Proficient skills and strategies
  • Successfully pass fingerprinting, criminal, Oregon Department of Education, and TSPC background checks
  • Knowledge of educational programs offered in all schools and of basic educational techniques, as required by the position
  • Knowledge of the basic developmental stages of a child's learning process
  • Ability to schedule the workload, manage time, and meet the needs of students, the school, or a program
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work with small groups and individual students
  • Ability to prepare materials for lesson plans and adapt, as needed, to meet the needs of students
  • Ability to interact positively with children and adults, and observe individual student abilities
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, administrators, parents and co-workers
  • Ability to safely and proficiently operate standard office and audio-visual equipment, as required by the position
  • Ability to maintain an appropriate and legal level of confidentiality regarding students, staff, and other individuals
  • Ability to maintain regular, predictable and prompt attendance

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Summer School teachers, Summer School educational assistants, and student case managers to develop and teach engaging student-centered lessons
  • Provide consistent support and encouragement to students
  • Adapt lessons to student needs
  • Regularly communicate student work and progress to Summer School Coordinator and staff
  • Create a growth-mindset culture in the classroom
  • Fully support and implement Social Emotional Learning, encouraging students to build self-awareness, self-management and relationship skills

  • Incorporate feedback and professional learning into teaching practices
