About The Position

Are you passionate about improving systems and driving innovation through technology? As an IT Operations Analyst I with the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), you’ll be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking team supporting mission-critical systems for the Business Technology Systems Division.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in computer science and two years of related technical and business experience.
  • Two years of related technical and business experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • OR Post high school coursework in computer science and three years of related technical and business experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
  • Occasional Scheduled Overnight Travel.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is mandatory.
  • This is an in-office position and is not eligible for remote work.
  • Knowledge of: Network planning, design, and evaluation.
  • Computer systems facilities support design and evaluation.
  • Networking and network application interfaces.
  • Electronic communications networks.
  • Computer systems, telecommunications, and network theory.
  • Operational needs regarding data communications, computer hardware and software.
  • Applications and user systems.
  • Testing equipment and hardware and software interfacing.
  • Agency mission and programs, rules/regulations and policies/procedures.
  • Schedule maintenance and workload performance analysis processes.
  • Computer programming languages and development methodologies.
  • Skill in: Develop/implement solutions to problems and operations analysis.
  • Critical thinking, troubleshooting, judgment/decision making, and time management.
  • Troubleshoot Project management organization.
  • Ability to: Communicate information to others electronically, telephonically, on paper, and in person.
  • Prioritize between two or more activities or sources of information.
  • Perform physical tasks of installing communications equipment.
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships.
  • Develop clear, concise documentation that effectively communicates the desired message.
  • Work under stress and pressure of critical deadlines.
  • Interact effectively with a wide range of personalities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in public-sector environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Hardware/software and network support.
  • Development efforts for multiple processing platform automated operations and special applications or projects.
  • Perform computer room design, application of network communications regulations and principles.
  • Use of precision instruments and technical equipment.
  • Installation, diagnosis, repair, and calibration of communications equipment, systems administration, research, procurement, and/or training.
  • Configuration/alterations of the government-wide/Statewide network.
  • Advise customers regarding the capacity, cost, and placement of the network/systems, and provide limited network solutions in circumstances where decisions are made within established parameters.
  • Server hardware and software installation/updates, and have responsibility for print/ghost servers.
  • Perform some analysis of network components such as switches, routers, cabling, and load balances.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
