In a team and service-oriented position within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Human Resources Department. This position will provide day-to-day human resource consultation and advice to faculty, chairs, managers and staff in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Facilitate a range of human resource activities for non-academic personnel, including: This position will assist with the following functions: Assist with non-academic staff recruitment for CALS through HRIS Workday. Process Non-academic staff appointments including extensions, terminations, termination notices, and reclassifications through Workday and the Term Appointment System (TAS). Creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS). Updating of existing non-academic Staff Position Descriptions (SDPS). Assist CALS HR team with compliance with Cornell University policies. Creating/updating email templates for CALS HR. Assisting with back up I9 verification. This is a full-time position at 100% FTE. This is a 6 month temp appointment that is contingent upon available work, funding, and performance. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role remotely 2 day per week and 3 days per week on-site. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke, or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree with a minimum of 1 year experience.
  • Understanding and application of HR knowledge and all applicable HR laws at the local, state, and federal level.
  • Ability to discreetly manage highly confidential material and to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
  • Outstanding customer service skills with an ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines concurrently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365.
  • Ability to effectively access, manage and report on various HR software, applications, and databases.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to maintain professional atmosphere.
  • Must be able to successfully work well with a variety of diverse people, including but not limited to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Experience demonstrating creativity, management, and problem-solving skills and the ability to work well within a team of professionals.
  • Must be able to work independently while supporting the efforts of an overall team.
  • Must be able to set priorities and manage competing demands effectively and efficiently.
  • Proven ability to identify opportunities for process improvements and then execute them.
  • Demonstrated practice of the University Skills for Success.

  • Experience working directly with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds.
