This position works under immediate supervision to perform clerical or para-professional work. The student will receive training in recombinant protein expression and purification, as well as enzymatic assays using a multiplexed plate reader. Following this training, the student will perform experiments to characterize several mutants of RSH hydrolases as part of one of the lab's NIH-funded research projects.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in high school.
• Minimum 14 years of age.
• Individuals ages 14-15 are subject to additional restrictions in accordance with UT Southwestern policy and applicable state and federal labor laws.
• Individuals ages 16 and older are not subject to additional age-based work restrictions.
• No prior experience.
• If assigned to work in a research laboratory, additional documentation signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Responsibilities

• Receive training in recombinant protein expression and purification, as well as enzymatic assays using a multiplexed plate reader.
• Perform experiments to characterize several mutants of RSH hydrolases as part of one of the lab's NIH-funded research projects.
• Perform a variety of duties to include, but not limited to, basic administrative and service related functions.
• Assist, receive training, and acquire working knowledge from various departments.
• May assist staff with day to day operations.
• May participate in basic to moderately complex projects as requested by supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
