About The Position

The Department of Human Services at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites highly qualified, motivated, and well-organized, applicants for a pool temporary of part-time teaching appointments. The Human Services Department at CSU Dominguez Hills has over 500 majors and is housed in the College of Health, Human Services and Nursing. Human Services is a popular major, attracting a diverse student body that is actively engaged in the community through the integration of academic courses and internship experiences. The mission of the Human Services Department is to provide diverse members of the community a university education that focuses on the knowledge and skills required to help those in need. The goals of the department are to provide a broad interdisciplinary background of the knowledge and skills needed to improve the quality of life for target populations or methods of intervention; through supervised fieldwork, to provide experience applying academic knowledge and skills in human services organization. The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled based on student enrollment and authorized funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.
  • Applicants must have experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.

Nice To Haves

  • A Ph.D. or extensive professional experience is required for teaching upper-division core courses (300- or 400-level).
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a specific class
  • Hold office hours
  • Communicate and resolve student issues as pertaining to the class, with the department chair and other faculty/staff in the department.
  • Attending departmental retreats and meetings, and as assigned when discussed and hired.
