About The Position

The Election Staff are critical team members who assists with the day-to-day operations of the voting process for all Dakota County residents. Dakota County is hiring multiple positions at the lead level. The Temporary Election Lead assists elections staff in conducting election administration tasks, supporting department programs, and related duties as assigned. They will also serve as a team lead for and assist in training of temporary elections staff. Who We Are Dakota County is Minnesota's third largest county and home to more than 400,000 residents. At least 18 years of age A Minnesota resident for at least 20 days A citizen of the United States Able to read, write, and speak the English language Eligible to vote in Minnesota High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) AND Valid Driver's License Pursuant to Dakota County Policy, this position is designated as Safety Sensitive. “Safety-sensitive position” means a position, including any supervisory or management position, in which impairment caused by drug, alcohol, or cannabis use would threaten the health and safety of any person as defined in Minnesota Statutes Section 181.950, subdivision 13. These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required for all positions.

  • Minnesota election processes, laws, policies and procedures
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public, department and County associates in a professional manner.
  • Ability to organize work efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to use computers and computer programs proficiently
  • Ability to perform accurate detail work with figures, statistical records, filing proofreading and spelling.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently work under pressure in a highly visible work environment during elections.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • A Minnesota resident for at least 20 days
  • A citizen of the United States
  • Able to read, write, and speak the English language
  • Eligible to vote in Minnesota
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Valid Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the team lead
  • Assist in training temporary election staff
  • Issue ballots to county residents at county service centers.
  • Accurately compile statistics related to issued and received ballots
  • Process received ballots
  • Prepare, stuff and/or collate election related materials
  • Answer questions from the voters and others regarding elections
  • Prepare and /or enter data into the state voter registration system
  • Lead teams of temporary elections staff in the above tasks
  • Other duties as assigned.
