Temporary Animal Keeper - Animal Ambassador
About The Position
The Akron Zoo is seeking a Temporary Animal Keeper in the Education Department for a six-month paid position (40 hours per week). The candidate should have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a mature attitude to work exclusively with the Animal Ambassadors. This position is responsible to provide husbandry, training, and enrichment; as well as providing public programing to a variety of audiences on zoo grounds with the bulk of the programing occurring during the spring and summer season. Successful candidates must be comfortable speaking to audiences of all ages. Current Hours worked: 8:00am to 5:00pm Hourly rate: $13.00/hr. Initial Days off: Wednesday-Thursday Position Location: Education Department - Animal Ambassador Team
Requirements
- A minimum of six months of animal care experience at an AZA facility
- Must be available weekends, holidays, and for a flexible schedule
- Must be able to meet all other requirements of the job
- This seasonal six-month assignment is a 40 hour per week position
- Proof of a negative TB test and tetanus vaccine are needed
Nice To Haves
- A four-year degree is preferred
- A minimum of three years of progressive work experience is strongly preferred as well as prior show/educational experience
