About The Position

The Hadassah-Brandeis Institute is a research institute at Brandeis University which supports research at the intersection of Jewish Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies. The HBI Gilda Slifka Summer Internship is an eight-week residential summer internship for 8 undergraduate and graduate students. Participants provide research assistance to HBI affiliate faculty and scholars, carry out their own independent research projects and attend weekly seminars with leading experts in the field. Now in it's 26th year, the HBI's Gilda Slifka Internship Program has become a launch pad for students interested in pursuing academic and/or professional careers focused on Jews and gender. The duties of the Intern Academic Advisor are fourfold: Developing and teaching the weekly seminar on significant themes and methodologies in Jewish gender studies . A syllabus is provided but can be shaped to suit the interests and expertise of the Intern Academic Advisor. Planning and leading experiential learning field trips around Boston. Planning and organizing occasional visiting speakers. Providing individual mentorship to interns on their research projects. The hourly rate for the position is $27/hr. While most duties are confined to the period of the internship, some advance planning and collaboration will be required in the months leading up to the start. This includes participating in reviewing applications to the program, revising the curriculum and scheduling experiential learning events. The Intern Academic Advisor must be available for the full period of the internship (June 8th - July 31, 2026). The Intern Academic Advisor reports to the HBI’s Assistant Director for Academic Programs and attends weekly HBI staff meetings. This position is expected to move forward pending confirmation of funding.

Requirements

  • Strong background in Jewish gender studies
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Doctoral student or recent Ph.D. graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Must be available for the full period of the internship (June 8th - July 31, 2026)
