About The Position

The Temporary Summer Academic Advisor provides up to 16 hours per week of onsite academic advising, including instructional support and preparation of curriculum materials, along with up to 40 hours of curriculum planning. This role develops curriculum and scope and sequence and prepares Educational Leaders to deliver 90–120 minutes of daily instruction. The Summer Academic Advisor facilitates planning meetings, provides coaching and feedback, and monitors progress. Additionally, this position supports integration of academics with enrichment, consults on program climate, and collaborates with staff and leadership under the supervision of the Beacon Director.

Requirements

  • Teaching Credential, issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
  • Must complete a full background check (Department of Justice, FBI, Child Abuse Index) after conditional offer is made.
  • Must have TB clearance 
  • Must complete and maintain current California Mandated Reporter Training certification, in compliance with California state law.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct service, supervision, and support to the students during program
  • Operate as a dependable team member working cooperatively and collaboratively with fellow staff to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for students and fellow staff
  • Delivers up to16hours per week of academic planning and teacher support services between June15,2026and July 24, 2026
  • Develop and provide curriculum, scope and sequence, and academic guidance to GSFRC staff and Temporary Summer Educational Leaders 
  • Prepare Educational Leaders to deliver 90–120 minutes of daily academic instruction and effectively implement provided curriculum 
  • Facilitate weekly planning meetings with Educational Leaders and participate in weekly planning meetings with GSFRC 
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and instructional support to Educational Leaders 
  • Support integration of academic content with enrichment activities, including aligning field trips with weekly themes 
  • Consult with staff on academic programming, as well as overall program climate and culture 
  • Provide guidance on how to best support academic instruction during program hours 
  • Participate in consultation meetings with program leadership to align on goals, group dynamics, and instructional priorities 
  • Share any problems or concerns as they arise and contribute to continuous program improvement 
  • Maintain a safe, clean, positive, fun, and engaging environment 
  • Uphold and enforce all safety policies and procedures
  • Attend mandatory staff, supervision and other designated meetings
  • Maintain a predetermined work schedule
  • Perform some daily administrative support and operating tasks as assigned by the Beacon Director
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to promote, maintain, and contribute consistently to a positive work culture and team environment
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect in communication in all situations and with all stakeholders (participants, staff, parents, teachers, etc.)
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to a variety of student and programmatic needs
  • Other job-related duties as assigned
