About The Position

Receives and pays out money and keeps records of money and negotiable instruments involved in financial transactions by performing the duties as outlined below. This role is responsible for opening and closing branch operations, handling various member transactions, promoting products and services, and ensuring accuracy and security in all operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as all member records, compliance rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence effectively and grammatically accurate.
  • Ability to speak professionally and effectively before members, groups of members or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of computers and various software including, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet applications.
  • Willingness to learn DataSafe, the credit union’s data processing system.

Responsibilities

  • Opening and closing branch operations.
  • Receiving checks and cash for deposit, verifying amounts, and examining checks for endorsements.
  • Cashing checks and paying out money after verification of signatures and member balances.
  • Entering member transactions into the computer to record transactions and issuing computer-generated receipts.
  • Placing appropriate holds on accounts and providing proper notification to members.
  • Ordering daily supply of cash and counting incoming cash.
  • Balancing currency, coin, and checks in the cash drawer at the end of the shift and comparing totaled amounts with computer data.
  • Explaining, promoting, or selling products and services.
  • Removing deposits and transactions from the night depository and ATMs.
  • Ensuring transaction tubes are promptly serviced.
  • Ensuring accuracy of member account information with each member interaction.
  • Handling the sale of money orders, cashier’s checks & travel cards.
  • Notifying supervisor of any breaches in security or teller procedures.
  • Assisting with member inquiries and research.
  • Remaining knowledgeable in all laws and regulations affecting teller functions.
  • Attending meetings and training sessions as directed.
  • Developing an understanding of credit union history and the credit union philosophy.
  • Handling inputting and saving CTRs.
  • Accepting incoming check orders and handling the ordering of them.
  • Rotating in coordination of teller work schedules and other essential duties.
