Telephone Triage Nurse

As a Triage Nurse (RN), you will provide appropriate medical advice over the phone to our patients according to treatment plans ordered by our oncology and hematology providers escalating treatment as necessary. Here's what might happen on a typical day… Being an infusion nurse is a unique role that is both challenging and rewarding. Many of our patients are very sick and rely on our nurses to take good care of them. Because of the long hours these patients spend toward treatment of their illness, our infusion and triage nurses become like family. We understand that a lot of work goes into learning and keeping up with the different types of treatments, and we recognize that your attention to detail and compassionate care are vital to the health of our patients. Maintaining a patient-focused mindset is always the goal, and you do this well! Experiences that matter… You have experience with oncology and hematology treatments and work flows which allows you to provide over-the-phone medical advice to our patients and their family members. Your experience also allows you to properly recognize when treatment for a patient should be escalated to a provider. In conversation with our patients, you will provide excellent customer service by rolling out the red carpet to meet their needs and make them feel as comfortable as possible during a challenging time in their lives. Your in-depth knowledge of the many types of treatments and regimens and willingness to stay current in these areas allows you to serve as a resource for our patients and other clinical team members. Experience with navigating Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and familiarity with HIPAA as well as OSHA and other safety guidelines will allow you to quickly adapt to the workflow of this position. Communicating respectfully and in a timely manner will keep all necessary team members on the same page to maintain the quality care of your patients. Your go-getter work ethic will have you ready to jump in and help out with any additional tasks.
Requirements
- professional nursing degree is required with a BSN degree being preferred
- Tennessee State Nursing licensure is also required
- current BLS certification will be required upon hire
- live in the Knoxville area or are in the process of relocating
- at least one year of prior oncology nursing experience
