Requirements

  • Achieve a passing score on the WCSO pre-employment screening and skills assessment exam for Telecommunicators
  • Must be eligible for appointment as a North Carolina Justice Officer – Telecommunicator pursuant to 12 NCAC 10B.0301
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a high school graduate or equivalent as defined in 12 NCAC 10B.0302
  • Be able to complete required medical and psychological examination, drug screening and background investigation
  • Not have been convicted by any local, state, federal, or military court of a felony or other convictions as defined in 12 NCAC 10B.0307
  • Currently possess or be able to obtain credential from the NC Sheriff’s Education & Training Standards Commission as an NC Telecommunicator through successful completion of Basic Telecommunicator Certification Course (TCC). Candidates not holding a current TCC certification from NCSETS will be required to obtain this certification upon hire (12 NCAC 10B.1302).

  • NCIC/DCI Module 2 Certification NCSBI Division of Criminal Information – Criminal Histories within 120 days
  • NCIC/DCI Module 3 Certification NCSBI Division of Criminal Information – Transactions within 120 days
  • NCIC/DCI Module 6 Certification NCSBI Division of Criminal Information – Protection Orders within 120 days

Responsibilities

  • Operate dispatching equipment to receive and transmit emergency and non-emergency calls
  • Communicate with other law enforcement agencies
  • Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls
  • Dispatch requests for services
  • Ensure that all calls are dispatched in a timely manner, and that information and addresses are correct
  • Prioritize incidents to determine urgency
  • Operate a multi-channel computer-based radio system
  • Receive and prioritize incoming telephone calls
  • Perform data entry into a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) System
  • Communicate effectively with the public, co-workers and other law enforcement agencies
  • Maintain records and files generated from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Criminal Information Section and Identification Section in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
