About The Position

Telamon is a leading provider of connectivity integration, implementation, and distribution solutions for many of the world’s most recognized telecommunications, transportation and consumer brands. Founded in 1985, we are a minority-owned company headquartered in Carmel, Indiana, and maintain a global footprint with locations in North America, Europe, and Asia. This work isn’t easy—and that is exactly why we do it. Telamon thrives when we’re solving problems that help enhance connectivity and lead to simplicity, safety, and reliability in everyday life. We are cultivating deeper connections with every bond we forge: a more comprehensive network that serves the world around us—inside our walls and out. The Network Configuration Engineer is responsible for ensuring telecommunications systems are fully configured, validated, and deployment-ready prior to field installation. This role owns the accuracy and performance readiness of network configurations, directly impacting installation efficiency, first-time-right deployment success, and overall project margin. By translating engineering designs into fully functional configurations, this role reduces field rework, accelerates deployment timelines, and ensures high-quality, customer-ready network solutions across Telamon’s infrastructure portfolio.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in network engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ related network engineering or deployment experience.
  • Experience configuring and integrating telecommunications systems across multiple platforms and vendors.
  • Working knowledge of optical networking technologies (e.g., DWDM, OTN, SONET, Carrier Ethernet, Open ROADM).
  • Understanding of system testing, validation processes, and deployment readiness requirements.
  • Familiarity with ISO/TL9000 or similar quality standards.
  • Proficiency with standard office and documentation software.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Ability to interpret engineering designs and translate them into functional configurations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple configuration tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Ciena, Fujitsu, Nokia, and Infinera product families.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Experience supporting customer interactions and cross-functional project teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Working knowledge of Optical Network, DWDM, OTN, SONET, Carrier Ethernet and Open ROADM desired.
  • Experience supporting end-to-end network deployment or turn-up activities.
  • Exposure to engineering project environments and vendor coordination.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with demonstrated process optimization experience.

Responsibilities

  • Configure telecommunications equipment—including optical transport, carrier switching, power systems, and network alarming systems—based on engineering specifications.
  • Own configuration accuracy and system readiness prior to deployment to the field.
  • Integrate multi-vendor technologies (Ciena, Fujitsu, Nokia, and Infinera) into standardized and customer-specific solutions.
  • Validate configurations against engineering designs, performance requirements, and customer specifications prior to release.
  • Execute system-level testing to ensure configurations meet operational, environmental, and performance standards.
  • Ensure all systems are deployment-ready, minimizing installation risk and post-installation defects.
  • Diagnose and resolve configuration and performance issues during pre-deployment stages.
  • Lead technical problem-solving for escalated configuration issues, coordinating with engineering, project teams, vendors, and customers as needed.
  • Identify root causes of configuration errors and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and maintain accurate configuration documentation, test results, and change records.
  • Ensure all configuration changes are traceable, controlled, and compliant with ISO/TL9000 standards.
  • Maintain documentation quality to support downstream teams (field installation, operations, and support).
  • Partner with engineering, project management, and field teams to ensure seamless transition from design to deployment.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal teams and customers related to configuration, testing, and system readiness.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to streamline configuration processes and improve deployment outcomes.
  • May provide technical guidance and support to field teams and less experienced team members.
