About The Position

The Akron Zoo is looking for a Teen Volunteer Program Assistant. Core responsibilities include working with the zoo’s teen volunteers each day ensuring all required activities are covered.

Requirements

• The candidate for this position should have a high school diploma with some college preferred in the areas of science or education.
• The individual should be comfortable working with teenagers and guiding them through daily activities.
• The Teen Volunteer Program Assistant should be a highly organized, outgoing, collaborative, strategic, independent, fun and creative self-starter who is able to multi-task and work independently within a busy work environment.
• Must have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), strong relationship building skills, and exceptional customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Creating monthly and daily schedules for the Jr Interpreters.
• Provide daily oversight of the Jr Interpreters ensuring daily schedule is followed.
• Using interpretive best practices, coach the Jr Interpreters on habitat chats and Discovery Cart presentations.
• Create new activities or topics for Discovery Carts
• Assist Career Pathways Manager with program & individual evaluations.
• Assist Career Pathways Manager with any ongoing projects.
