About The Position

The award-winning Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is currently hiring for an Teen Services Department Head at the Clark County Library. General Summary: Under general direction from the Branch Manager or designee, the Teen Services Department Head exercises general supervision over the services of the Teen Services Department. This position performs a variety of professional and supervisory work, including the planning, coordination, and implementation of programs and partnerships, as well as the operation of a library services department at a branch library. Acts as Person-in-Charge (PIC) on a routine basis and as needed. Department Overview: The Teen Services Department supports the development of the material collection and the three unique spaces that make up the Clark County Teen Services Department: the Teen Maker Lab, Teen Lounge, and the Career Pathways Classroom. The Department focuses on providing educational, career, and life-skill support to youth ages 12-19. Description of hours and wages: The pay range for this position is $82,168 to $110,113 per year. Pay typically begins at the minimum of the pay range, and employees are eligible for annual merit and COLA increases per District policy. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), FLSA exempt position. A Relocation Reimbursement of up to $2,500 is available to assist with relocation of over 100 miles. Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS or MLIS) from college or university accredited by the American Library Association (ALA).
  • One (1) year supervisory experience as a professional librarian in a related library department.
  • Possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Nevada Driver’s License at the time of hire.
  • Prior completion of Las Vegas-Clark County Library District’s (LVCCLD) Person-in-Charge (PIC) Training or completion of core PIC Training within six (6) months of assuming the position.
  • District provided AED/CPR certification must be completed within six months from date of employment and must be maintained (current) while in a covered position.
  • Ability to implement strategic library services and objectives.
  • Ability to lead with professional composure.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years professional librarian experience with at least two (2) years supervisory experience in a public library.
  • One (1) year of direct experience working with youth or teens in an educational setting.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises assigned staff, including but not limited to: a. Performance coaching and management.b. Career counseling and development.c. Conflict resolution.
  • Develops relationships and communicates with the local community to assist in the establishment of programs and outreach initiatives to support community and District goals.
  • Performs and leads collection development and maintenance activities for the assigned department.
  • Plans, coordinates, and assigns outreach and library programming.
  • Prepares and maintains files, records, and reports.
  • Processes and handles confidential information with discretion.
  • Sets short-term (daily to annual) operational goals for assigned service or department.
  • Organizes and reviews work for efficient results and accuracy.
  • Monitors department compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, best practices, and District policies and procedures.
  • Monitors and adapts to current and emerging trends in library administration/science and public administration and makes recommendations regarding future department, branch, and District strategies and planning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
