About The Position

The Teen Program Specialist is a full-time, year-round position. The primary responsibility of the Specialist is to implement the Urban Roots Teen Environmental Justice program, Youth Advisory Council, and Alumni program, including planning, recruiting, curriculum development, scheduling, and supporting and evaluating teens’ progress through the program.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of direct work in a highschool classroom or informal education setting as a program supervisor or teacher
  • Experience writing and facilitating lesson plans
  • Interest in and knowledge of nature, plants, gardening, and the environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication and organizational skills
  • Collaborative, team-building attitude
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Must be able to work independently and on a team
  • Must be flexible, relatable to teens, energetic, organized, independent, and an efficient manager of time
  • Undergraduate degree in education, environmental science, or a related field required.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching certificate preferred.
  • Familiarity with Modeling Instruction and NGSS science and engineering practices (SEPs) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Recruit program participants from local Westside high schools
  • Coordinate with Director of Nature Education to produce and deliver teen program evaluations
  • Schedule relevant guest speakers, field trips, and workshops for teen programs
  • Work with Community partners to inform program activities and projects
  • Coordinate & facilitate end of program session showcase & celebration for teens, parents, staff and funders
  • Work alongside Digital Media Specialist to launch and manage teen social media
  • Develop Alumni programming that engages both Urban Roots and Youth Advisory Council Alumni
  • Develop & deliver robust STEAM curriculum to teens during afterschool and summer programming
  • Deliver professional and personal development workshops to teens
  • Administer program logistics
  • Coordinate annual camping trip for Urban Roots and Youth Advisory Council
  • Lead mentorship program and facilitate workshops for Senior Leaders
  • Provide supplemental content for grant writing and reporting, including results of student and program evaluation
  • Facilitate and lead Youth Advisory Council
  • Supervise Teen Program Assistant (PT, Seasonal employee)
  • Other duties as assigned
