About The Position

Position available June 2026. Sarasota Art Museum’s Teen Arts Council (SAM TAC) is a group of high school students who share a common interest in art and community engagement. The SAM TAC program participants will engage with art, culture, and history; develop workplace and team-building skills; develop public speaking skills, learn and engage with the museum’s curatorial, education, marketing and public engagement departments and learning a range of museum professional options and career paths.

Requirements

  • Willingness to work collaboratively with a diverse group of teens and SAM staff.
  • Creative attitude—willing to “think out of the box”.
  • Demonstrated work ethic.
  • Respectful – demonstrating kindness and respect to others’ opinions and thoughts.
  • Strong interest in the arts and humanities.
  • Openness to new ideas & experiences.
  • Willingness to be a spokesperson for SAM TAC.
  • Rising high school juniors and seniors that will be enrolled in high school for the 2026 – 2027 year.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all Teen Council planning meetings, events, and activities as a collaborative and creative team member for a 6-week intensive summer program.
  • Research and develop the Sarasota Art Museum’s timeline, the 1926 historical Sarasota High School built environment for the SAM Memory Project.
  • Be an ambassador for SAM events and programs in their schools and communities.
  • Represent teens through authentic input in SAM TAC program design and implementation.
  • Develop and create a Teen Art Show for the Museum's Community Gallery.
  • Develop, create and implement the SAM TAC guided tour.
  • Attend various SAM activities, engaging in learning activities, and sharing updates and information.
  • Interview alumni of the historical Sarasota High School for the SAM Oral History project.
  • Research museum curatorial standards and best practices.
  • Research oral history standards and best practices and develop a questionnaire for potential interviewees.
  • Develop, create and implement the SAM TAC Blog.
  • Utilize peer network.
  • Ability to interact with museum visitors.
