About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Education, the Teen and Leadership Programs Coordinator is vital to Independence Seaport Museum's education mission. The primary tasks are managing the Teen Ambassadors program, assisting with school programs (such as field trips, after school programming in the Seaport Boat Shop, and other similar facilitated lessons) , and co-developing a suite of leadership programming for teens, educators, and adults. With the Director of Education, they will also ensure proper evaluation of these programs and offerings. The Teen and Leadership Programs Coordinator will be someone who has a varied tool-kit and is looking to co-build with the Director of Education and the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the relevant fields (history, civics, science, mathematics, or education). Equivalent experience in informal education, program development, or in the trades accepted.
  • A minimum of two years' experience teaching in a museum or classroom setting.
  • Demonstrated experience managing others particularly teens.
  • Understanding of formal high school programming and curriculum.
  • Ability and willingness to engage with the public.
  • Flexibility, patience, and strong attention to detail; a good sense of humor and a friendly, reliable team player.
  • Excellent communication abilities, including customer service and phone/virtual communications and email manner.
  • Ability to break down complex subjects and topics for general audiences, including teens and adults required.
  • Can work both independently and collaboratively with Seaport Museum staff and community collaborators.
  • Cultural competency for working with diverse audiences and stakeholders; ability to form and maintain community relationships.
  • Upon hiring, a PA Child Abuse History Clearance and State Criminal Record Check are required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Museum's Teen Ambassadors summer and school year programming.
  • Manage and monitor the Ambassadors, their projects, and their scheduling.
  • Lead leadership and civics programs for teen audiences and for adults or special groups.
  • Develop and evaluate leadership resources for educators, students, and adults.
  • Assemble lesson plans from leadership programs to be taught in conjunction with school lessons or other museum programs.
  • Assist with the afterschool program for high school students in the Seaport Boat Shop.
  • With the Director of Education, gather and disseminate data and marketing materials to appropriate departments.
  • Coordinate with other departments for programming content and logistics.
  • Gather, maintain, and monitor inventory of supplies needed for programming regularly.
  • Maintain calm, positive, and organized atmosphere using classroom management skills.
  • Occasionally provide off-site programming at fairs, festivals, outreach programs, and conferences.
  • Occasionally lead school or tour groups in the museum
  • Assist with, and as needed, lead the department's public programming particularly related to teens, civics, and community engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
