As an Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) Technologist, you will perform basic and advanced donor and patient tests, interpret results to determine donor-recipient compatibility, resolve compatibility problems, and provide intermediate reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services. You will also perform automated and manual test procedures on blood samples.

Requirements

  • MT(ASCP) Bachelor’s degree with major in biological science or chemistry
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • MLT (ASCP) certification with 5 years of blood banking experience can be substituted
  • State license may be required where applicable
  • Good written and verbal skills to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Must be able to work on a team

Nice To Haves

  • BB(ASCP) or SBB certification
  • Experience in a Reference Laboratory

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic and advanced donor and patient tests, and interpret results to determine donor-recipient compatibility.
  • Resolve compatibility problems.
  • Provide intermediate reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services.
  • Perform automated and manual test procedures on blood samples.
  • Resolving compatibility problems, and providing complex reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services.
  • Managing receipt, coordination, shipment, and transport of patient and donor blood samples and documenting supply and equipment problems.
  • Managing reagent inventory (ordering, receiving, inspection and preparation).
  • Recognizing/resolving testing irregularities and assisting other Medical Technologists in problem resolution.
  • Consulting with staff at other medical facilities, to resolve complex serologic problems and providing special units to transfusion recipients.
  • Performing manufacturing duties associated with special blood products, if applicable.
