About The Position

The survey technician is responsible for planning, calculating, preparing, and executing field survey tasks for local mining operations.  Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, field survey stakeout of blast holes, dragline dig lines, property boundaries, limits, permits, and other boundaries.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma; Associates degree or higher preferred
  • Previous land or construction survey experience preferred
  • Previous experience in a mine or construction environment preferred
  • Minimum high school diploma; Associates degree or higher preferred
  • FAA Part 107 drone license preferred
  • Understand basics of mine planning, dragline movement, and drill & blast
  • Understanding of construction aggregate and mining facilities
  • Working knowledge of basic computer drafting including AutoCAD and ESRI ArcMap
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at multiple sites simultaneously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Knowledge and experience with GPS survey equipment and surveying standards and practices
  • Ability to work with standard office/computer equipment and software including intermediate Microsoft Office skills with emphasis on Word and Excel
  • Exceptional communication skills including ability to clearly speak and write in English, bilingual in Spanish, a plus
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Able to perform strenuous outdoor work in varying weather elements
  • Must wear protective equipment while at the location
  • Capability to work extended hours or weekends as necessary
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work in hot, dusty, or wet conditions with exposure to loud noises; may require prolonged periods outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with drones with FAA Part 107 certification, a plus
  • Exceptional communication skills including ability to clearly speak and write in English, bilingual in Spanish, a plus

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of all employees, visitors, and contractors and promote a culture of Zero4Life
  • Exemplify safety leadership in all aspects of the role, and adhere to all CEMEX, MSHA, and OSHA rules and regulations at all times
  • Utilize appropriate software to prepare and calculate blast holes, dig lines, property and permit limits, and other lines and points
  • Operate GPS survey equipment including rover and data collector, total station, and drones
  • Ability to accurately stakeout locations for blast patterns, dig lines, and property and permit limits using GPS survey equipment
  • Ensure that that property boundaries, permit limits, extraction limits, and reclamation/development areas are clearly delineated in the field and communicated to appropriate mine management
  • Have a basic understanding of surveying fundamentals and practices; working knowledge of GPS survey, coordinate systems, and vertical datums
