This role is part of Alcon's Engineering function, a team focused on improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes. The Technician III, Repair & Maintenance Engineering is primarily responsible for managing technical tasks in planning, designing, and implementing maintenance programs for facilities and equipment. You will be expected to build effective and meaningful relationships to coordinate maintenance work, review engineering specifications, and participate in equipment installation at our Manufacturing Facility in Houston, TX. Alcon develops and manufactures innovative devices to serve the full life cycle of eye care needs. Its surgical group is one of the largest makers of equipment used for cataract removal and laser vision correction. Its consumer products include the well-known Opti-Free line of contact lens solutions and related products. Alcon, which was founded in 1945, sells its products in 180 countries worldwide.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • Adherence to GxP regulations by strictly following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintaining accurate and complete documentation, ensuring rigorous quality control, and completing all required training.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and compliance with regulatory requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems
  • Able to read schematics, manuals, and technical drawings
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a logical, methodical approach
  • Technical certification, license electrical/HVAC, experience in industrial/manufacturing
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Experience in industrial, manufacturing, facilities, or utilities environments
  • CMMS experience and basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Handle technical tasks related to planning, designing, and implementing maintenance programs to optimize facility and equipment availability and productivity.
  • Reads and use schematics, manuals, technical drawings and diagnostic tools effectively.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems.
  • Completes preventive and corrective maintenance on schedule.
  • Clearly communicates issues, root causes, and repair status.
  • Documents work accurately in Maximo.
  • Collaborates with other departments – operators, supervisors and engineers.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a logical, methodical approach, resolve issues quickly while minimizing downtime.
  • Proactively identifies potential issues before they become failures.
  • Assist in coordinating maintenance engineering work and liaise with production staff to coordinate repair work, statutory safety inspections, and the supply of new plant and equipment with production schedules.
  • Participate in the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Make decisions within the scope of your tasks, requiring advanced technical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Adhere to GxP regulations by strictly following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintaining accurate and complete documentation, ensuring rigorous quality control, and completing all required training.
