Position Title Technician II – Met Lab Job Summary The Technician II – Met Lab prepares samples for analysis and examination and performs a range of moderately complex metallurgical services. This role supports testing and evaluation through mechanical and metallographic testing while collecting and recording data with moderate supervision. The position may support multiple functional areas, including Mechanical Testing, Preparation, Metallographic Testing, Magnetic Testing, or Heat Treating.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience as determined by department management
  • One or more years of relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, and practices
  • Working knowledge of metallurgical and laboratory equipment
  • Ability to operate general metallurgical/laboratory equipment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
  • Problem-solving skills using standard procedures and processes
  • Ability to perform diversified and moderately complex work
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision
  • Team-oriented mindset, collaborating within the department to achieve goals

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples for metallurgical analysis and examination
  • Perform mechanical testing using general equipment, including: Hardness testing Tension and tensile testing Resistivity testing
  • Perform metallographic testing using etchants, polishing equipment, and standard metallographic tools
  • Collect, document, and record test data obtained during evaluations
  • Enter test piece results into the mainframe system with moderate supervision
  • Understand all equipment within the area and operate assigned general equipment
  • Support other duties and special projects as assigned
