About The Position

The University of Rhode Island enrolls approximately 17,000 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs and is the State's flagship public research university, as well as the land grant and sea grant university, for the state of Rhode Island. The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston, and the Bay Campus is located in Narragansett. Both campuses are near major beaches in a beautiful coastal community. URI is just 30 minutes from Providence, RI and within easy reach of Newport, Boston, and New York City. POSITION SUMMARY: Provide generalized audio visual (AV) assistance to campus community. Work as a member of a project team involving other support staff, including students. Work under close supervision of a manager or a project leader. Support campus live streaming and video recording requests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum one year experience in an audio visual support position OR two years' experience in a position that included a substantial amount (at least 50%) of audio visual technology work (including as a student employee).
  • Knowledge of audio visual hardware.
  • Knowledge of video recording equipment including cameras and microphones.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to successfully work in a team and independently.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
  • Experience using Unified Communication tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (equipment, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in film or related field.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience supporting board meetings, live speaking engagements, etc.
  • Experience using major AV brand control systems.
  • Certification(s) from AVIXIA or AV manufacturers.
  • Experience terminating Category cables, etc.
  • Experience in setting up temporary AV solutions.
  • Experience in producing livestreams.
  • Experience conducting audio visual consultations or needs assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair campus audio visual systems.
  • Provide audio visual support services to live campus events, specifically live streaming and video recording work.
  • Provide postproduction services for video recordings.
  • Monitor campus lecture capture systems.
  • Provide training to campus community, as well as other support technicians.
  • Create informative documentation on audio visual systems.
  • Work under the direction of a project lead in audio visual system installations.
  • Collaborate with technicians in other units of ITS and university departments.
  • Work a non-standard schedule to fulfill assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Respond to technical emergencies outside of normal working hours as needed.
  • Support URI special Events outside of normal working hours, including weekend and evening hours, as required to meet campus needs.
  • Maintain a high level of understanding of current developments in the assigned area of responsibility and anticipate future needs.
  • As part of training, perform functions normally assigned to Senior Technician, although to a lesser extent.
  • Perform other duties as required.
