Our goal is to be a trusted partner in advancing operational readiness by ensuring the accurate, timely, and accessible documentation of critical technical solutions. We're looking for a skilled Technical Writer to join our team supporting the U.S. Air Force's Unified Platform software factory in San Antonio. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining a wide range of technical documentation, from system architecture and user manuals to cybersecurity compliance artifacts and knowledge base content. You'll collaborate closely with software engineers, cybersecurity professionals, DevSecOps teams, and mission stakeholders to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and actionable documentation that supports system sustainment and mission understanding.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in technical writing or related roles supporting IT, cybersecurity, or software engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of documentation best practices, including structure, clarity, and accuracy for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience supporting programs within the DoD, Intelligence Community, or other federal agencies, ideally with exposure to RMF, NIST, and STIG compliance.
  • Proficiency with documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, Confluence, SharePoint, Markdown, Adobe Acrobat, or similar.
  • Familiarity with technical environments including cloud services, DevSecOps, cybersecurity frameworks, or system architecture.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
  • Active secret clearance is required, with TS/SCI preferred.
  • B.A./B.S. in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field—or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, edit, and maintain technical documents including system documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), user guides, training materials, and security accreditation artifacts.
  • Collaborate with engineers, cybersecurity SMEs, and program managers to gather source material, conduct interviews, and verify technical accuracy.
  • Translate complex technical language into clear, readable content for a variety of audiences, including cyber operators, mission users, and leadership.
  • Support the development of security documentation in accordance with Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST SP 800-53 controls, and DoD compliance standards.
  • Maintain version control and organize documentation repositories to ensure consistency and traceability across updates.
  • Assist in the creation of briefings, diagrams, and technical visuals that support documentation and knowledge transfer.
  • Apply plain language principles and ensure adherence to documentation standards and formatting requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation processes, templates, and collaboration tools.
