About The Position

Mindbank Consulting Group has an immediate need for a Technical Writer. The Technical Writer will create technical documentation in a Government specified (Department of Defense) template and format. The deliverables are documents such as System Architecture, System Design, Database Design, Interface Control, System Requirements Specification, Requirements Traceability Matrix, Integrated Test Plans and Test Descriptions, Test Reports, Software Installation Plans, Software Version Description, Deployment Instructions, etc. The Technical Writer must have experience writing technical documentation in Department of Defense (DOD) templates and format. Majority of the documentation will be written from scratch, i.e., there is no existing documentation. The Technical Writer is expected to quickly learn the various components of the system, interview staff to gather details, and be able to produce this documentation with minimal supervision. The deliverables must meet quality standards set by the Government which expect that deliverables satisfy 100% of their requirements and contain, at most, minor errors. The material in the deliverable must be presented in a logical and unambiguous manner. The contents must be accurate and complete. Conclusions must be fully supported by the content in the document.

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in computer science/systems, information systems/technology, natural sciences, social sciences, mathematics, or business/finance.
  • Three years of additional applicable experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's or Associate's degree.
  • 3 years experience as a technical writer.
  • 3 years writing technical documentation that adheres to DOD templates and format.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with XSD, XSLT, XML a huge plus.
  • Knowledge of SubVersion or GIT version control system a plus.
  • Knowledge of JIRA and Confluence a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Excellent written skills.
  • Responsible for producing technical documentation that meets the quality standards set by the Government.
  • Learn existing application quickly to be able to generate the content for the technical documentation.
  • Ability to work with staff to gather details and content for the documentation.
  • Ability to translate information from staff into usable content.
  • Attend Daily Scrum meetings and become a part of the Agile team.
  • Ability to take screenshots, produce charts and diagrams to be used in the documentation.
  • Ability to write documentation that adheres to the DOD templates and format.
  • Good verbal communication skills coupled with strong listening skills.
  • Ability to contribute on an individual basis as well as demonstrate your strengths as a team player as a member of an agile team.
