Reporting to the Program Manager, the Technical Writer II is responsible for providing comprehensive technical documentation support for software systems, including authoring and maintaining user guides, system specifications, and workflow documentation; managing version control and document lifecycle processes; and supporting development activities through documentation updates, usability testing, and process alignment supporting the NUWC Code 25 Advanced Interactive Management Technology Center (AIMTC). This is a contingent position expected to be located in Newport, RI.

Requirements

  • An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required.
  • At least three (3) years of experience providing technical writing support in a US Navy or similar DoD environment required.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain software documentation, including user manuals, system guides, technical specifications, and API documentation, detailing database design, workflows, and data integrations.
  • Manage and control documentation, including version control, organization, storage, access, and change tracking to ensure accuracy and consistency throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Attend development stand-up meetings and provide updates on documentation status, requirements, and process changes.
  • Create and maintain clear workflow mappings that reflect current application processes and system functionality.
  • Draft and update policies and procedures related to business operations and product delivery for review and approval.
  • Conduct usability testing following software updates to validate functionality, identify issues, and document bugs in tracking systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
