The Opportunity The Training & Competency team is seeking to hire a technical trainer who will be a key contributor to TC Energy’s commitment to safety, operational excellence, and employee development. Reporting to the Training Delivery Team Lead, this role is responsible for delivering hands-on technical training, assessing Operator Qualification competencies, and developing programs that support field personnel across US Operations. The Technical Trainer partners with internal and external stakeholders to ensure training content is current, engaging, and aligned with industry best practices. This full-time position is based in West Alexander, PA. A location within 20–30 miles of the Technical Training Center in West Alexander is preferred; however, alternate TC locations may be considered based on the candidate’s qualifications. Relocation package will be available to internal candidates only.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years’ experience as a technical trainer or 7+ years of related technical experience
  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Technical, Engineering, or related field
  • Certification in technical training, instructional design, or a related field
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with the natural gas or related energy industry
  • Technical expertise in one or more of the following: Corrosion, Pipeline, Valves, Compression, EIC, Measurement & Regulation
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, procedures, policies, and regulations
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training (estimated up 40% of work schedule)
  • Stay overnight away from home base

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging technical training sessions in one or more specialized areas Corrosion, Pipeline, Mechanical, Valves, Compression, Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC), and Measurement & Regulation
  • Foster an interactive learning environment tailored to adult learners, utilizing a variety of instructional methods to maximize engagement and retention
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess technical training needs and develop targeted programs using both internal and external resources
  • Partner with engineering, safety, and other teams to ensure all training materials reflect current regulations and industry standards
  • Evaluate employee competencies to ensure Operator Qualification (OQ) compliance and support ongoing skill development
  • Design and implement assessment methods to routinely test and validate technical proficiency
  • Participate in follow-up activities to measure training effectiveness
  • Develop targeted training solutions to address skill gaps and deficiencies in the field
  • Research and recommend public and private educational opportunities to enhance the company’s technical training offerings
  • Build strong partnerships across departments to ensure training programs are relevant, effective, and aligned with organizational goals
