About The Position

Join the Facilities Operations and Maintenance team, a highly responsive and knowledgeable crew providing outstanding service for Facilities Services and to the university community. Building Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive facilities monitoring, operation, and optimization services in support of the University’s operations. Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university’s operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory or our iconic Tower. Requirements

  • Diploma (High School) or GED.
  • At least 5 years journeyman experience in construction/facility maintenance trade related to the posted position.
  • At least 3 years supervisory experience in commercial/institutional construction/facility maintenance or three or more years of experience as an Assistant Supervisor or Crew Leader.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or higher.
  • More than 5 years of journeyman level experience.
  • More than 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Completion of department's Introduction to Leadership program.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with commissioning of new and remodel projects, including reviewing final documentation and performing testing.
  • Coordinates the daily workload of the Building Optimization Team based on its project schedule and available resources.
  • Provides technical support to zone maintenance when requested by the Supervisor.
  • Assists with daily data entry and monitoring to maintain shop effectiveness and safety.
  • Reviews paperwork filled out by technicians including reports and as-builts.
  • Creates work orders for internal use and for other departments to complete necessary repairs.
  • Inspects finished work for conformity to specifications and standards.
  • Documents job time and material.
  • Orders job-related materials and maintains the shop tools, PPE and instruments.
  • Replaces the tools, PPE and instruments as required to ensure safety.
  • Interprets and works from drawings, specifications, and sketches, for assigned projects to ensure University standards are maintained.
  • Uses the data collected from the BOT technicians to schedule our audits and repairs during our retro-commissioning projects.
  • Keeps up-to-date on relevant controls products, tools and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Trains other technicians within shop on code requirements, equipment and system lay-outs.
  • Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps supervisors up-to-date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise, and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met.
  • Participates in regular meetings to communicate project milestones with the BOT technicians, as well as coordinating system repairs and developing commissioning strategies.
  • Maintains availability by cell phone at all times during working hours and as required after-hours.
  • Works collaboratively with other Facilities groups to make key system repairs and adjustments to improve system efficiencies.
  • Coordinates the work of other shops and outside contractors to complete project repairs and/or system changes.
  • Motivates workers to meet production and quality standards.
  • Assists in solving work-related problems at the job site.
  • Works with the Building Systems Operations Supervisor to help develop the scope of work for the Building Optimization projects.
  • Helps to develop long and short-term schedules for the Building Optimization Projects.
