About The Position

The Technical Support Specialist operates within a hybrid utilization model, combining project-based technical support with mentoring, on-the-job training (OJT), and training development. This role supports both immediate project execution and long-term workforce capability by providing hands-on technical expertise, delivering structured classroom and field training, reviewing technical documentation, and serving as a key technical resource for field teams. The position plays a critical role in reinforcing technical quality, human performance, and safety programs while ensuring consistent application of technical standards across operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, relay testing, or protection & control.
  • Experience with technical training standards and certifications in electrical commissioning or similar industries.
  • Strong working knowledge of apparatus testing, protection & control systems, relay testing, and utility or industrial power systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, and communicate effectively with field personnel.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and maneuver tools, test equipment, and materials commonly used in electrical testing and commissioning (up to approximately 50 lbs).
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and access elevated work areas in substations, industrial facilities, and construction environments.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in varied physical positions for extended periods during job-site activities.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and temperature extremes.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including arc-rated clothing, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and fall protection, as required.
  • Visual and auditory ability sufficient to perform technical inspections, read instruments and documentation, and communicate effectively in active work environments.
  • This position may require early start times, extended work hours, or overtime based on project schedules, operational needs, and site requirements.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites as required up to 50%.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications in workforce development, training, or electrical services (e.g., NETA, NICET, or other related certifications) are highly desirable.
  • Expertise in training requirements for support services, encompassing industry standards, equipment handling protocols, and certification processes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical point of contact for field personnel, providing guidance on equipment testing, protection and control (P&C), and related technical matters.
  • Provide hands-on technical support at job sites, including short-term field assignments to address execution challenges, staffing gaps, or urgent operational needs.
  • Perform technical reviews of project documentation, including test plans, procedures, reports, and other technical deliverables.
  • Support consistent application of technical standards across projects and field operations.
  • Develop and deliver technical training through classroom instruction, internal webinars, and on-the-job training (OJT) as required.
  • Mentor technicians and junior engineers to strengthen technical capability, confidence, and execution consistency.
  • Identify, document, and communicate technical skill gaps and training needs observed across field teams.
  • Support continuous learning and development through coaching and knowledge transfer.
  • Support the development, revision, and implementation of technical standards, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions.
  • Reinforce organizational human performance tools and safety expectations through field engagement, training, and coaching.
  • Promote technical quality, procedural compliance, and safe execution across all assigned scopes of work.
  • Participate in employee qualification and competency vetting in accordance with the POWERX Employee Qualification Program.
  • Verify personnel meet defined technical skill and qualification requirements prior to performing assigned work.
  • Support continuous improvement by providing structured feedback from field execution and project reviews to Workforce Development, Operations, and leadership.
  • Coordinate closely with Operations and Workforce teams to align utilization, availability, and workload with project demands.
  • Additional responsibilities and tasks as required to support the organization's goals and adapt to evolving business needs.
