About The Position

The Gulli Lab, a new systems neuroscience lab at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, is seeking a Technical Specialist (infrastructure specialist) for a part-time position. This individual will be a key contributor to our lab's technical infrastructure, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the custom-built research systems that are essential for our science.

Requirements

  • Technical training
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Microsoft Windows certification preferred
  • 2+ years of experience of either technical support or programming/systems experience in end user computing applications, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in end user computing applications and network-based PC/workstation systems, or relevant applicable experience.
  • Demonstrated experience building, networking, and maintaining computer systems.
  • An ability to work independently to diagnose and resolve complex technical problems.
  • A strong interest in applying technical skills to advance biomedical research.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in coding (MATLAB, Python, C#, and/or bash scripting) is a major plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Designing and building high-performance computer systems optimized for virtual reality, real-time data acquisition from multiple sources (electrophysiology, video, physiological sensors), and large-scale data analysis.
  • Integrating diverse hardware and software into cohesive research platforms.
  • Managing our lab’s local network, data storage, and backup solutions to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues across our research rigs to maximize experimental uptime.
  • Other duties as assigned.
