About The Position

The Technical Specialist will define the scope of work, develop program plans and timing, and interpret customer requests to create work packages. This role involves identifying resources, estimating durations, and evaluating critical interactions to define project milestones. The specialist will provide technical guidance, mentorship, training, and direction to the project team, ensuring the effective use of FEV tools like TopExpert and GEC for development activities. Key responsibilities include ensuring effective data post-processing and quality evaluation, setting up and troubleshooting data acquisition systems (e.g., Inca, ADAPT, Morphee), and training subordinates on project execution and engine/aftertreatment technology. The specialist will also mentor Project Engineers on emissions and OBD regulations and the overall calibration process, develop the technical team through training, and create new toolchains for calibration and validation. The role requires effective communication with operations staff for testing and issue resolution, overseeing project execution for calibration, validation, and certification activities on-road, chassis, and engine dynos. The specialist will evaluate collected data for system verification, quality, and engine health, collaborate with customers on test plans, track calibration progress, and manage test support requests. Reporting on testing efficiency and resource downtime, ensuring adherence to FEV processes, and validating data for customer delivery are also crucial. The position involves reviewing and analyzing project data, interfacing with customers through technical presentations, summarizing project status, and proposing next steps based on testing results. Additionally, the specialist will support business development by creating technical content and pricing for proposals, developing acquisition materials, technical papers, and presentations to showcase FEV's capabilities, presenting at conferences, and actively pursuing new business opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Systems Engineering
  • 36 months of experience in job offered or related position in engine and powertrain development
  • Experience managing programs related to technical execution and team responsibilities
  • Experience conducting development activities for diesel and gasoline engines / powertrains, including performance testing, emission certification, and calibration
  • Experience with aftertreatment development for diesel (DOC/DPF/SCR) and gasoline (TWC/GPF) based components
  • Experience conducting testing for fuel and lubricant development and evaluation, including TOPTIER protocols
  • Experience applying engine test protocols conducted on engine dynamometers, including HD-FTP, RMC, LLC, Clean Idle, NTE
  • Experience applying development, calibration, and engine controller interface tools to INCA, Matlab, Morphee, and CANape

Responsibilities

  • Define scope of work and develop program plans/timing, working with customers and internal teams.
  • Interpret RFQs and customer requests to break work scope into work packages.
  • Identify required resources and estimate durations for execution of each work package.
  • Evaluate critical interactions between work packages and define key milestones for the project.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, training and direction to project team, driving the use of commercially available and internally developed FEV tools (e.g. TopExpert & GEC) to conduct development activities.
  • Ensure data is post processed effectively and its quality evaluated by team.
  • Setup/configure and troubleshoot data acquisition systems (e.g Inca, ADAPT or Morphee).
  • Train subordinates on project execution and applicable engine/aftertreatment technology.
  • Mentor Project Engineers on emissions and OBD regulations and the overall calibration process.
  • Develop the technical team by developing training material or leading training meetings.
  • Create new toolchains to support calibration and validation efforts.
  • Ensure the team effectively communicates with operations staff to conduct testing and resolve issues.
  • Oversee project execution to coordinate the execution of calibration, validation and certification activities performed on-road as well as on chassis and engine dynos.
  • Evaluate collected data to verify data acquisition system, data quality and engine health.
  • Work with customers and internal teams to develop test plans and track calibration progress towards milestones.
  • Work with internal network systems to request test support.
  • Track and report on testing efficiency and resource downtime.
  • Ensure the application and support the refinement of FEV processes /procedures.
  • Validate data in to prepare for delivery to customers.
  • Review and analyze data gathered by project team to achieve project goals and communicate test results to customers.
  • Interface with customers, creating technical presentations that detail the results of testing activities.
  • Summarize project status and progress and deliver project status presentations and testing results to customers.
  • Present and propose next steps to customer based on testing results.
  • Support business development activities, creating technical content and pricing for proposals.
  • Create acquisition materials, technical papers, and presentation materials to showcase FEV’s capabilities, present technical topics at conferences, and draw interest from potential customers.
  • Actively pursue new business opportunities.
