About The Position

Building Controls & Solutions (BCS) is a leading solutions provider (and value-added Distributor) of Building Automation control products and solutions. We provide products and services to Mechanical, Electrical and Controls Contractors working in the Building Automation markets. We offer a wide array of Building Automation products specializing in HVAC controls, gas detection systems, flow measurement, security and access control, lighting control, wireless, analytics and IoT technologies. We also provide solutions to engineering contractors and integration providers that work closely in the above industries. Customers range from OEMs and Integrators to Contractors and End Users. Our dedicated and experienced staff leverages our relationships with industry leading manufacturers to develop competitive solutions solving building automation and energy management challenges in the commercial building space. We operate in/around local branches, geared for Contractor visits, with a showroom of available products ready for purchase. Building Controls and Solutions is seeking an experienced Technical Solutions Specialist to deliver high-level technical support to both internal teams and external customers. This role is centered on phone and email support and is ideal for a seasoned BAS professional who pairs deep technical expertise with strong communication skills—someone who can translate complex issues into clear, actionable guidance. This is a hybrid position . Candidates located near a Building Controls and Solutions office are preferred, though highly qualified remote candidates will be considered.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience in the Building Automation / Controls industry.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, control strategies, sequences of operation, controller checkout, and commissioning/support workflows.
  • Niagara TCP Certification (required).
  • Extensive hands-on experience and formal training with Honeywell Spyder, Stryker, and Optimizer product lines (required).
  • In-depth experience with Johnson Controls FX and Metasys, including CCT, SCT, and associated tools (required).
  • Experience supporting remote connectivity solutions such as OpenVPN, WireGuard, and Tosi (strongly preferred).
  • Solid working knowledge of BAS protocols including BACnet (IP and MS/TP), Modbus (RTU and TCP), LonWorks, and other common building system interfaces.
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Professional, customer-first mindset with strong ownership and follow-through.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Niagara AX to N4 transitions, upgrades, migrations, and backup/restore best practices.
  • Experience diagnosing protocol-level integration issues such as BACnet mapping, priority arrays, polling strategies, and network segmentation impacts.
  • Working knowledge of BAS-adjacent networking concepts including IP addressing, VLANs, routing fundamentals, firewall rules, VPN access, and serial communications.
  • Experience supporting enterprise, multi-site BAS environments.
  • Comfort presenting to groups and leading hands-on technical training sessions.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as ASI Controls, ISMA Controlli, Lynxspring, EasyIO, SkySpark, and J2 FIN.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a front-line and escalation-level technical support resource for internal teams and customers via phone and email.
  • Troubleshoot Building Automation System (BAS) issues end-to-end, including symptom analysis, data collection, root cause isolation, and delivery of corrective actions.
  • Explain complex technical concepts—such as protocol behavior, sequences of operation, controller logic, integration limitations, and networking impacts—in a clear, customer-friendly manner, adjusting depth based on the audience.
  • Document support cases thoroughly, including problem statements, troubleshooting steps, findings, root cause (when identifiable), and final resolution.
  • Provide configuration, commissioning support, and troubleshooting across multiple BAS platforms and tools, including but not limited to: Niagara Honeywell Spyder, Stryker, and Optimizer Johnson Controls FX and Metasys using CCT, SCT, and related tools.
  • Support remote connectivity and access solutions such as Tosi and Neeve, assisting customers with setup, connectivity troubleshooting, and best practices.
  • Design and engineer Niagara stations, including architecture planning, station buildout, device and point integration, alarming, histories and trending, scheduling, graphics and navigation standards, user and role configuration, and performance optimization.
  • Configure and program controllers from project start through checkout across multiple manufacturer platforms, including database setup, point-to-point, sequences of operation, tuning, and functional testing.
  • Create and maintain technical resources such as knowledge base articles, troubleshooting runbooks, and quick-reference guides; contribute to knowledge sharing through informal coaching and formal training sessions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project delivery, and support teams to resolve escalations and improve consistency through standards and best practices.
