About The Position

The TEMPEST Specialist performs on-site evaluations, per CTTA specifications, to determine the effectiveness of TEMPEST countermeasures. Primary responsibilities include conducting TEMPEST assessments, evaluations and other services that include but are not limited to: Conducting and documenting TEMPEST threat assessments of Y-12 and Y-12 contractor facilities in which classified information is processed. Developing and maintaining TEMPEST checklists for facilities that process classified information. Evaluating wireless technologies located within proximity to classified processing areas to determine the need for TEMPEST countermeasures based on the TEMPEST Plan. Working independently, advising and assisting NNSA personnel on matters of technical security policy, procedures, and regulations. Reviewing proposed recommendations for the design of technical security upgrades and provide recommendations based on counter-threat plans, physical security and technical security policies. Working with other disciplines across the site to update TEMPEST checklists for new construction projects and facility upgrades. Support the TEMPEST training program. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • OR a minimum of 12 years of education relevant experience will be reviewed and considered for equivalency to these requirements.
  • If selected, applicants must successfully complete DOE-required TEMPEST training if not previously attended.
  • Applicant must be capable of providing expert guidance on TEMPEST theory, principles, and procedures.
  • Applicants must have an active Q clearance and be SCI eligible and willing to undergo a polygraph examination to be considered for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of security and TEMPEST related experience is preferred.
  • Possess a strong understanding of TEMPEST principles and the RF Spectrum.
  • Possess a strong understanding of basic electrical principles, grounding and bonding and have the ability to read and understand technical and engineering drawings.
  • Completed the NSA TEMPEST Fundamentals training or equivalent
  • Experience with RF Spectrum monitoring equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers, Software Defined Radios (SDR), etc.
  • Experience with acoustical testing equipment
  • Possess proficient writing skills and have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to all levels of management.
  • Capable of creating training and informational material to present to all levels of CNS employees and management.
  • Have a basic understanding of computers and computer networking and wireless technologies
