About The Position

We are seeking a full-time Technical Product Owner to support the design, development, and delivery of software solutions for health insurance operations and member-facing capabilities. This role works closely with engineering, QA, and business stakeholders to translate business needs into high-quality, technically sound software. Prior experience in health insurance is required, and familiarity with regulated, data-driven systems is a plus. We are primarily looking for a strong product owner who is comfortable working in a technical environment and collaborating closely with development and quality teams. Experience with compliance requirements related to HIPAA, CMS, AHCA, NAIC, OIG, URAC, DHEC, Medicaid, and Medicare is highly beneficial but not required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or similar discipline is preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience in health insurance is required
  • Experience working on Agile or Scrum teams in a Product Owner or Business Analyst capacity is a required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data-driven decision-making.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel preferred.
  • Proficiency using software programs such as MS Word, Adobe, Gmail, Excel, and Outlook
  • Comfort working with documentation, diagrams, and process flows is preferred.

  • Experience with Epic, Athena, Cerner, Meditech, Oracle, BenefitHub, Facets, Optum, NextGen, Plexis, or Availity is a plus.
  • Software QA experience is a plus
  • UI/UX experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards, workflows, or payer operations
  • Multi location and multi business unit experience is a plus
  • Microsoft or AWS certification is a plus but not required.
  • Experience using Agile or product management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence, Rally) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the product backlog for one or more Agile development teams
  • Translate business needs into clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Collaborate daily with engineering, QA, UX, and stakeholders to ensure shared understanding
  • Lead or actively participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
  • Ensure features meet functional, performance, reliability, and quality expectations
  • Partner with QA to ensure appropriate test coverage and validation
  • Help prioritize work based on business value, risk, and technical dependencies
  • Support release planning, production readiness, and post-release validation
  • Identify and help resolve ambiguities, dependencies, and delivery risks
  • Continuously improve backlog clarity, delivery predictability, and team effectiveness
  • Define, monitor, and communicate team metrics to improve delivery predictability, quality, and data-informed decisions
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Agile delivery practices
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements when building, testing or maintaining applications.
