About The Position

Reporting to the Project Director, the Technical Manager is responsible for leading and integrating all engineering, technical, and interface management functions for a large, long-life mining development project in Alaska. This role serves as the single-point technical authority for the project, providing technical leadership and decision-making across all project phases – detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and transition to operations. The role ensures alignment across multiple EPCm partners, contractors, and internal stakeholders, and acts as the final escalation point for resolution of cross-EPCm technical issues and disputes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in technical or engineering management roles on large-scale mining, energy, or heavy industrial projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple EPC, EPCm, or major engineering contractors simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of mining project development, engineering design, construction sequencing, and commissioning.
  • Expertise in project controls interfaces, technical risk management, and change management processes.
  • Proficiency in engineering management systems, project management tools, and technical reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead senior technical professionals and influence across organizational disciplines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while confidently driving accountability and alignment across EPCm teams and internal stakeholders.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and responsible project execution.
  • Candidates must have current authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on projects in Alaska, remote, or logistically complex environments is strongly preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent professional certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall technical leadership for the project, ensuring engineering designs and technical solutions are safe, fit-for-purpose, constructible, and aligned with long-term operational objectives.
  • Own and enforce project technical standards, design criteria, and engineering decision frameworks.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to the Project Director and senior leadership team, providing clear, data-driven recommendations on technical risk, cost, schedule, and execution trade-offs.
  • Support development and maintenance of integrated project execution plans, engineering schedules, and technical budgets, ensuring consistency across all EPCm execution strategies.
  • Identify, assess, and manage technical and execution risks, develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans, and lead technical risk escalation and resolution processes.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of technical decisions, assumptions, risks, and lessons learned, including formal decision registers and interface management documentation.
  • Establish and govern technical execution frameworks across all six EPCm teams, including definition of common design criteria, interface management requirements, and performance expectations.
  • Set and monitor EPCm technical performance KPIs, and hold EPCm teams accountable for engineering quality, schedule adherence, and data maturity.
  • Act as the primary technical integrator across all six EPCm teams, ensuring consistent execution strategies, aligned assumptions, and coordinated deliverables, with authority to challenge and resolve misalignment.
  • Manage technical, schedule, and data interfaces between EPCm packages to eliminate gaps, overlaps, or misalignment.
  • Coordinate technical change management across EPCm contractors, ensuring impacts to cost, schedule, risk, and scope are clearly identified, evaluated, and controlled.
  • Oversee and coordinate technical interfaces related to logistics, materials movement, and construction sequencing across EPCm packages, ensuring engineering deliverables are aligned with overall materials movement strategies.
  • Ensure engineering designs account for transportation constraints, fabrication strategies, seasonal access, and site execution realities. Candidates are expected to be familiar with, and act as subject matter leaders in, areas such as sealift planning, overland transport constraints, seasonal execution windows, and module sizing decisions.
  • Work closely with logistics, construction, and operations teams to ensure engineering solutions support efficient field execution, including constructability and installation sequencing considerations.
  • Lead formal constructability reviews and ensure engineering designs support safe, efficient, and practical field execution during construction and commissioning.
  • Collaborate closely with project controls, procurement, construction, environmental, permitting, and operations teams.
  • Support engagement with regulators, partners, and external stakeholders as required.
  • Lead and mentor senior, multi-discipline technical professionals across owner and EPCm organizations, driving alignment across competing priorities and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate the confidence and technical depth to challenge EPCm assumptions on design, cost, and schedule using data-driven analysis and sound engineering judgment.
