As a technical leader and mentor, you will be responsible for BWRX-300 Instrumentation Application Engineering (IAE), be a managerial delegate on the work scope of the instrumentation project, be knowledgeable on the workings of field instrumentation, including both in-line and non-inline instrumentation, help with the interface with Controls and Monitoring Engineering, DCS, and cross teams such as mechanical, simulation and training. Focus on work planning, schedule maturation, work scope review with a technical approach, report job status on a daily basis, perform pre-job briefs, work with project scheduling to assign charge codes for work, technically assist responsible engineers on deliverables, able to assess when a project change request is needed, mentor others, seek opportunities for REs to engage in career growth, have good communication skills, good people management skills, and execution excellence from ITO through OTR on new build projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or Electronics Engineering, or Nuclear Engineering, or equivalent 4-year technical degree.
  • 8 years’ overall or mixed experience in heavy industrial or nuclear industry working in plant instrumentation applications, control and monitoring system design, digital control system (DCS), networking, and data communications architecture definition including requisition engineering, implementation, test, installation, and commissioning
  • 8 years’ overall or mixed experience in application engineering, field installation, and test engineering of systems, equipment, and components including selection, sizing calculations, and equipment qualification to diverse industry standards
  • 8 years’ overall or mixed experience in the nuclear industry produce family system design, plant engineering, maintenance, modifications, new plant design certification, and licensing.
  • For the United States the preferred work location for this role is at the GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
  • For Canada this role requires working two days a week onsite in the Markham Ontario office.
  • For Canada GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in Canada for this opening.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters or P.H.D of Science in Science in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Nuclear Physics, Reactor Engineering, Procurement Engineering, or equivalent 4-year technical degree.
  • Understand and have experience with Statement of Work, Procuring, Sourcing and Buying in a nuclear procurement engineering role.
  • Experience working with Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) systems or Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs).
  • Experience in nuclear analog and digital instrumentation, control, monitoring, electric power system, and field engineering with working knowledge in safety-related, significant to safety, and non-safety-related systems, hardware, software, theory of operation, instrument set point and calibration methodologies, environmental and seismic testing, and qualification
  • Experience in US and international nuclear regulatory affairs, licensing, laws, rules, regulations, guidance, etc. applicable to power and test reactors
  • Competency in industry standards IEC, NEC, CSA, ANSI, IEEE, ISA, ISO, NFPA, ASME, API standards for instrumentation and controls and quality standards.
  • Clear thinker, detail oriented, insightful, quantitative, balanced, and a results-oriented analyst and leader.
  • Self-starter with energy, positive “Can-Do” attitude and inclusive style – Proven track record of delivering commitments on specification, on budget, and on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate matrixed cross- disciplinary Engineering teams to assess work product or support requests, analyze plant system requirements, operations and maintenance goals, possible I&C and DCS architectures, equipment selection, phased implementations, develop list of clarifications and exceptions, prepare proposals with scope, conformance matrix and risk scorecard, work plans, cost estimates, and schedules.
  • Able to learn to initiate Statement of Work, and work with sourcing or fulfillment on an as-needed-basis to support external Architectural Engineering (AE) organizations.
  • Lead preparation of high thru low work planning, scheduling, and resource loading across lifecycle phases of Engineer-Procure-Construct or new product introduction using the applicable practices, guides, and tools.
  • Support project engineering or manager with understanding execution metric and status, issues, risks, mitigation or recovering plans, and be extremely proactive to identify changes in scope.
  • Drive compliance utilizing scope, schedule work plan, budget, overall schedule, applicable design processes, and discipline specific practices and tools including design and technical reviews.
  • Lead “day-to-day” operations and follow-up to ensure deliverables are produced and commitments met on-spec., on-budget, and on-schedule
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to ensure system designs and deliverables comply with requirements throughout design release to manufacturing or supplier including production, validation, installation, and commission tests.
  • Support strategy, plan, statement of work preparation, and implementation of resource loading and mobilization involving employees, staff augmentation contractors, suppliers, and partners including other Company entities.
  • Champion nuclear safety culture; Ensure compliance with GEH policies, quality management system, and corrective action program and support delivery work with integrity, safety, security, quality, and on-time output.
