Students will meet in person twice per week. Students must be prepared to be on site at Ellucian at least two days a week during the summer internship in Reston, VA. Summary Ellucian + NCA&T are partnering to offer The Reimagined Internship for a 7 member cohort. During the summer portion, you will also be joined by 3 returning JMU interns, making it a cohort of 10. Ellucian is a global tech company that works with higher education institutions in 50+ countries providing solutions that help them become more agile, scalable, and efficient. Through a blend of classroom instruction and practical application, students chosen for The Reimagined Internship will learn the entire software development lifecycle, from problem identification to solution implementation.

Requirements

Current NCA&T freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
Students who will embrace belonging to a team, are eager to learn how to problem-solve using design thinking, wish to strengthen their communication and critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

Preferred areas of study: computer science, business, humanities, strong focus on AI, statistics, UX/UI, design thinking, cognitive psychology, marketing, communication, English, ethics, philosophy, law, graphic design, data science.

Responsibilities

NCA&T Prep Course – Spring ’26 Accepted students will enroll in a prep class in Spring 2026 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00pm-4:00pm. This immersive course, developed in collaboration with Ellucian, offers students the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a multidisciplinary software development team. Participants will work alongside software developers, AI/ML specialists, UX designers, product managers, ethicists, and storytellers to create innovative solutions to real-world challenges.
Summer Internship at Ellucian – May 18, 2026 – August 7, 2026 The program culminates in a full-time, 12-week paid summer internship at Ellucian's Reston, VA office, providing students with invaluable industry exposure and professional development opportunities. Students will be responsible for creating a live product, defined by Ellucian, and pitching it to senior leadership at the end of the internship.
