About The Position

As a Technical Instructor, you’ll play a critical role in supporting Dallas Maintenance and the operation of the largest Boeing fleet in the world—helping ensure the safety and reliability of the aircraft that serve millions of Customers each year. You’ll design, develop, and deliver technical training for Southwest Employees, On‑Call Maintenance Providers, and Airframe Substantial Maintenance Providers, staying current on evolving aircraft systems, technologies, and regulatory requirements. Through classroom, hands‑on, and computer-based instruction, you’ll equip Aircraft Mechanics with the knowledge and skills needed to perform complex maintenance and troubleshooting, reduce non‑confirmed failures, and support critical aircraft authorizations. By serving as a technical resource across internal Teams and regulatory Partners, you’ll directly contribute to operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and Southwest’s unwavering commitment to Safety. Requirements

  • Must be able to instruct on all aircraft systems and aircraft maintenance related subjects
  • Must possess excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Must be able to read and interpret complex technical manuals, logic diagrams, and schematics
  • Must have strong written and verbal skills and ability to speak in a classroom situation
  • Must be able to operate visual aids such as audio/video equipment and training simulators
  • Knowledge of Windows based PC software, required
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 8 years of commercial aviation industry experience
  • 5 years of hands-on commercial aircraft maintenance or 5 years Boeing 737 instructional design/courseware development and technical instruction experience
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic Certificate, required
  • Must be able to stand and publicly speak up to 6 hours per day
  • Must be able to lift and move items up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Must be able to access all sections of the aircraft via stands and ladders
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be willing to travel extensively for long periods of time, frequently
  • Must be willing to work variable days/shifts, frequently

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of CBT courseware design software, preferred
  • Knowledge of Wizard or MaxiMerlin mainframe computer system, preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree

Responsibilities

  • Provide training to SWA Employees, On-Call Maintenance Providers and Airframe Substantial Maintenance Providers/Designees in accordance with the Maintenance Procedures Manual (MPM)
  • Design, develop, implement and revise training curriculums emphasizing system operation and troubleshooting procedures to reduce non confirmed component failures
  • Design, develop, and implement special training curriculums to provide authorization of AMTs for critical aircraft maintenance functions
  • Develop and operate computer based training courseware
  • Provide training required by governmental regulations (i.e. FAA, OSHA, & EPA)
  • Provide assistance with aircraft troubleshooting/act as a technical liaison to internal departments or Governmental agencies
  • Provides needs assessment and analysis to provide training solutions to operational problems
  • Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
