About The Position

Summary: The Technical Instructor of Construction Technology teaches post-secondary courses in the Associate of Applied Science in Supervision, Construction Technology degree program at CMU Tech. Duties include teaching construction supervision subjects including, but not limited to, building materials and testing, estimating, print reading, project management, and other supervisory courses that develop management skills.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in related field from an accredited institution
  • Knowledge in both residential and commercial construction
  • Understanding of OSHA standards, industry safety rules, and national building codes
  • Minimum of 4000 hours (approximately 2 years full time) of related occupational experience within the past 7 years
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong industry-based math skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution
  • Training or teaching experience in related field, either in a work training environment or in an educational environment

Responsibilities

  • Professional classroom and lab instruction of at least 15 credit hours per semester teaching subjects related to the Construction Technology program.
  • Maintain 5 hours of office time per week.
  • Applicant will be responsible for curriculum development and course scheduling
  • Assist in recruitment, advisement, placement, and follow-up of students
  • Work independently, and in collaboration with colleagues, to develop innovative curriculum which meets the needs of our diverse population of students.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in surveying, construction codes, and safety regulations.
  • Must be committed to highest quality teaching, be responsive to changing industry expectations, and support strong industry/community relations
  • Determine program needs, maintain equipment, and maintain program budget
  • Coordinate industry engagement with local employers for advisory committee, internship, and other industry specific needs
  • Serve as representative of the department by participating in committees, task forces, and events at the campus, college, and/or state levels
  • Other related duties as assigned
