About The Position

Responsibility Provides resource allocation, manages priorities, and provides design and engineering status reports. Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for all gear types, including helical, bevel, worm, planetary, and especially high-performance hypoid/spiral bevel sets. Oversee the design, analysis, and optimization of gears and bearing arrangements to meet noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) and durability targets. Collaborate with plant operations to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability (DFM), specifically regarding gear grinding, lapping, and heat treatment processes. Create and control engineering design documentation. Assure quality of design, analysis, models and prints through established design reviews. Provides technical oversight and guidance of the Core Engineering Specialists on the Team. Assigns core engineering tasks as appropriate to the Core Engineering Specialists so that the team’s workload is even, tasks are completed in a timely manner and the work continues to develop the Core Engineering Specialist’s technical capability and capacity. Approve, define and maintain design guides and best practices for their respective product. Lead the upfront core component design and analytical activities of a project. Research, plans, and guides product architecture for next generation product/component designs. Supports Product and Test Engineering in the development phase of new products. Ensures product designs support optimal manufacturing methods and processes while maintaining product function. Provide technical leadership to groups/individuals, specifically the Core Engineering Specialists, for critical engineering projects/issues. Conducts appropriate technology studies and investigations to obtain optimally designed products for the market. Develops the final product design requirements and communicates this to the product teams. Supports Advanced Manufacturing studies to define the appropriate process and equipment requirements. Recognize and lead technical problem resolution using problem solving techniques such as 8-D, IS/IS-NOT, fishbone, Red X and 6-Panels. Generate technical documentation including design FMEA, prototype and control plans for components. Review technical publications, conducts patent searches and reviews; provide recommendation(s). Support new business pursuit activities including system layouts, duty cycle analysis, review of technical documents (i.e. Statement of Work, Design Guides, Best Practices, Technical specifications). Develops engineering tools, test methods and procedures for accurate product performance evaluation. Deliver training in subject area to increase the knowledge base of engineering organization. Provide mentoring to Engineering Specialists and Product Engineers.
