About The Position

Parsons is looking for a talented Engineering Manager to join our team! In this role you will get to manage and develop our structural engineering staff, help lead key project pursuits, mentor staff with project development, and implement QA/QC for deliverables. Roles of the Position: Provide management and direction for our structural staff. May be assigned to a large program exceeding $250 million in total installed cost as a technical task lead for bridge and wall design. Help develop and review discipline staffing budgets and staffing assignments with schedules for each project. Maintain appropriate staffing level, including temporary personnel, as needed. Review and approve staff forecasting reports. Monitor the quality and progress of discipline development on projects assigned and ensure that deliverables satisfy design criteria and Owner recommendations. Work closely with Project Managers to resolve any existing or forecasted problems related to discipline staffing, quality of work, schedule performance, or productivity. Establish standards and procedures for the structural discipline. Recommend improvements to discipline procedures associated with project development. Recruit, interview, and evaluate prospective employees. Hire, offer personnel development, conduct performance evaluations, counsel employees, take corrective actions (as required), and approve terminations. Ensure that new employees receive orientation on company policies and procedures. Support pre-contract and business development efforts as required, serving as technical consultant and bridge task lead as required based on experience. Ensure performance within overhead budgets authorized for the structural discipline. Actively participate in and promote the Quality Improvement Program. May head a committee within the structural discipline, striving to motivate and educate the assigned personnel. Perform other responsibilities of leadership associated with this position as may be appropriate. Serve as structural Task Lead on TxDOT contracts. Provide subject matter expert guidance to Project Managers and Task Leaders.

Requirements

  • Masters’ Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) and 25+ years of related work experience, including supervisory and managerial experience.
  • Professional Engineer registration with active membership in a professional engineering society.
  • Proven ability to perform in a supervisory/managerial capacity, excellent written and oral communications skills, and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of current technology and bridge design criteria.
  • Knowledge and capability with the use of bridge specific engineering software in completing engineering assignments.
  • Ability to work structural repair and retrofit solutions in the field with the Owner’s representative and contractor.

  • Support development of TxDOT relationships that support upcoming program development and needs for the state with roadway infrastructure.
  • Ability to effectively manage different personalities in staff development and retention.
  • Lead successful project deliveries including development of drawings, specifications, and estimates.
  • Chair program development inside Parsons’ Bridge Technical Organization (BTO) for national development of bridge engineering practices.
