About The Position

The Technical Data Management Intern will be within the Performance and Technology team in Maintenance Programs (Tech Ops). We are dedicated to providing Southwest Airlines Employees with industry-best operating manuals when and where they are needed. We work with our Customers to create and maintain consistent, thorough, and accurate publications for our Frontline Employees and Customers to create and maintain consistent, thorough, and accurate publications for our Frontline Employees and our Leaders. Join Southwest as a Summer 2026 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 19 – August 7, 2026. Due to the nature of this role, you would be required to work from our Dallas, TX headquarters facility during business hours (2702 Love Field Drive). Dedicate 40 hours each week (maximum of 8 hours per day) to your internship responsibilities and tasks. Interns will be provided any required equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship. U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S. required and no current or future work authorization sponsorship available.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required
  • Progress towards degree, major, or minor Engineering, Aviation, Business Analytics OR similar degree
  • Progress towards a 4-year undergraduate degree preferred
  • To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (as defined by your university) at the time of application and during the internship
  • At least 3 semesters remaining at the time the internship ends is preferred
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process
  • Problem solving ability and strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).
  • Ability to work independently and willingness to function as part of a team.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines.
  • Self-starter with a high degree of autonomy and accountability in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Nice To Haves

  • Foundational understanding of aircraft systems, technical documentation, and maintenance program structures is preferred.
  • Experience with using tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, Microsoft Office 365 products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic process improvements within the Technical Data Management function.
  • Recognize operational inefficiencies in current processes and understanding the importance in improving them.
  • Represent the Technical Data Management team in cross-departmental initiatives and meetings.
  • Applies the usage of standard program, project management, and agile methodologies to address complex projects.
  • Creation and delivering of presentations that are clear and convey key information such as roadmaps, and business cases to support change and drive alignment that can be presented at the executive level.
  • Represent and lead cross-functional projects and initiatives aimed at addressing unique operational challenges.
  • Analyze complex data sets to derive insights that inform long-term strategy and business decisions.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Proactively monitor projects and communicate risks, issues, and scope, ensuring the appropriate level of priority, visibility, and escalation.
