About The Position

Talbert, Bright & Ellington, Inc. (TBE) is a full-service, professional aviation engineering firm focused on the planning, design, and construction for airports in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Florida. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina for over 28 years, TBE employs more than 90 professionals. TBE is seeking an experienced Copywriter who can produce clear, precise, and well-structured documentation. The ideal candidate has the ability to transform complex technical information into accessible, user-friendly content tailored to a wide range of audiences. A strong grasp of engineering terminology is highly preferred, particularly within civil engineering and aviation/airport infrastructure, including areas such as runways, taxiways, aprons, and airside/landside systems. In this role, you will collaborate closely with marketing teams, project managers, designers, and subject matter experts to gather requirements, validate technical accuracy, and deliver high-quality documentation that supports both internal teams and external users. This position requires excellent writing skills and strong attention to detail. You are a detail-driven communicator who thrives in technical environments, enjoys diving into engineering details, asks the right questions, and produces documentation that supports safety, compliance, and operational excellence across civil and aviation projects. You also can adapt your writing style for marketing and communications content, including flyers, brochures, website copy, and social media content.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–5+ years of technical writing experience, preferably in an engineering-focused environment.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with documentation tools and formats (e.g., MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, Markdown, Confluence, XML/DITA, or similar).
  • Experience writing for both technical and non‑technical audience

Nice To Haves

  • Background or experience in engineering, especially civil engineering or aviation/airport infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of airport systems, including runways, taxiways, airfield lighting, pavement design, or related domains.
  • Proven experience as a Technical Writer in engineering, civil infrastructure, or aviation.

Responsibilities

  • Strong creative writing skills with the ability to deliver polished, brand-consistent messaging across marketing channels, adapting style and tone for diverse audiences and content formats including technical documentation, website content, presentations, and marketing collateral.
  • Review, edit, proofread, and manage document updates, versioning, and continuous improvements.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, requirements, release notes, APIs (as applicable), and internal procedures.
  • Translate complex engineering concepts into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, R&D, and project teams to gather requirements and ensure technical accuracy.
  • Research systems, workflows, and standards related to civil and aviation infrastructure.
  • Ensure documentation complies with regulatory, industry, and organizational standards.
  • Maintain consistency through style guides, templates, and terminology standards.
