About The Position

Perform various support functions in the histology laboratory. These includes, but not limited to, specimen handling and preparation, data entry and assisting pathology staff and Histotech's with daily duties.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Exposure to biohazardous materials and hazardous chemicals in the lab.
• Adhere to safety, ergonomic, and health policies; follow all PPE protocols.
• Complete required safety training and health evaluations on time.
• Identify/correct safety hazards and promote safety awareness.
• Lift/carry up to 20 lbs for 50 yards; lift up to 25 lbs from floor to ~5 feet.
• Perform repetitive short-distance walking; work effectively in noisy environments.
• Strong interpersonal skills with patients, physicians, and coworkers.
• Demonstrate organization, critical thinking, problem-solving, judgment, and initiative.
• Work well under pressure; manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

• Laboratory experience preferred but not needed.
• Keyboarding skills and medical terminology is helpful but not needed.

Responsibilities

• Performs data entry in to the AP computer system.
• Use all menu pathways of the Epic and AP computer system as required for assigned job functions.
• Use laboratory instrumentation in a limited fashion under the supervision of your manager.
• Perform preliminary set up for the pathology assistant or pathologist to perform specimen grossing.
• Handle client-related questions and concerns in a courteous and efficient manner following department policies and procedures.
• Handle specimens in accordance with quality and safety regulations to ensure accurate histologic test results.
• Comply with all company, department and regulatory policies and procedures which include compliance and safety protocols.
• Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the organization by performing other duties as assigned.
