About The Position

This position will support the Transportation Data Equity Initiative project within the Taskar Center sponsored by the USDOT program. This innovative data infrastructure project, with a broad partnership among state departments of transportation, transportation service providers, industry and community partners, seeks to enable mobility equity by creating an interoperable, shared data infrastructure to fill in gaps in current transportation data and ultimately, provide travelers needed information they can trust. Detailed, accurate data about pedestrian networks, travel environments (transit facilities, etc.) and on-demand travel services is crucial for any trip planner, trip concierge, wayfinding, or exploratory mobile application, in particular applications and mobile experiences serving the needs of people with disabilities, older adults, veterans, suburban and rural populations. The Technical Application Engineer (Research Consultant 3) is a junior-level full-stack developer responsible for architecting, building, and maintaining the core software infrastructure of the Transportation Data Exchange supporting research being conducted by faculty and graduate students in the Taskar Center for Accessible Technology. This role supports the development of scalable, secure, and inter-operable applications that power public-facing dashboards, internal data tools, and geospatial analytics platforms. The engineer will implement technical design and implementation across multiple projects, including Walksheds tools, ADA Transition Plan dashboards, and internal data-sharing interfaces. This position is essential to ensuring the TDEI's tool ecosystem is performant, accessible, and aligned with open data standards. This position reports to the Technical Applications Lead at the Taskar Center.
