About The Position

Attorney needed! In this role, you will provide legal support, as Staff Attorney, for the State of Illinois General Prosecutions Program. Performs highly specialized technical assistance and participates directly as an expert on whose advice key decision makers rely on in formulating administrative policies for interpreting the assigned acts, rules, regulations and judicial decisions of assigned acts. Travels to conduct formal and informal hearings on complaints alleging violations under assigned acts. Institutes licensure disciplinary proceedings in the Department against a licensee accused of irregular practice under assigned acts. Conducts research and provides expert legal advice to professional licensing and disciplinary boards. Requirements

  • Requires graduation from a recognized law school.
  • Requires possession of a license to practice law in Illinois.
  • Requires three years professional experience in the practice of law in the area of administrative and regulatory law.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least seven years of experience with judicial and quasi-judicial procedure, the rules of evidence, administrative hearings, and trial procedure, specifically relating to professional licensing, cannabis regulations, or regulatory laws.
  • Prefers at least seven years of litigation experience conducting trials or evidentiary hearings in state court, federal court, or administrative hearings.
  • Prefers at least seven years of experience acquiring extensive knowledge of state and federal laws, specifically relating to administrative and regulatory functions.
  • Prefers at least five years of experience managing and maintaining individual case load.

Responsibilities

  • Performs highly specialized technical assistance and participates directly as an expert on whose advice key decision makers rely on in formulating administrative policies for interpreting assigned acts, rules, regulations and judicial decisions.
  • Travels to conduct formal and informal hearings on complaints alleging violations under assigned acts.
  • Institutes licensure disciplinary proceedings in the Department against a licensee accused of irregular practice under assigned acts.
  • Conducts research and provides expert legal advice to professional licensing and disciplinary boards in the interpretation of applicable statutes, proposed rules, regulations and changes in applicable legislation.
  • Enters data on personal computer and/or laptop computer concerning prosecution activities.
  • Consults with and cooperates with other State and Federal agencies, State's Attorney's Office and U.S. Attorneys regarding cases of a sensitive and confidential nature involving criminal and/or administrative prosecution, transfer and use of evidence and court appearance scheduling.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
