About The Position

Design, develop, prepare and instruct courses in various disciplines related to Elevator & Escalator maintenance and operations. Monitor students’ progress to ascertain their level of proficiency. Counsel students on technical matters.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma plus four (4) years relevant maintenance experience in the Elevator & Escalator field.
  • An equivalent combination of Technical School or advanced education in a relevant field (one year education equates to two years of experience) may be considered.
  • Knowledge of modern E&E maintenance practices and procedures required.
  • Must be technically fluent in subjects of instruction and conversationally correct in all other aspects of E&E maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, adapts and implements basic programs to specific applications using objective guided course evaluations.
  • Evaluates programs for effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain programs suitable for performing the goals of Technical Training with the most efficient means using state-of-the-art technology.
  • Develops specialized and advancement training programs for SAM, as well as hourly employees in accordance with client demands, needs analysis and maintenance data.
  • Research, develop, and/or procure instructional aids required for technical training including, but not limited to: printed data, films, audio and video tapes, charts, circuit boards and diagrams.
  • Assess student comprehension and progress by preparing, evaluating and administering verbal, written and task performance tests.
  • Participates in the process of annual testing with State Inspector to stay current on latest policies.
  • Tutors students to determine their understanding of course data and their proficiency in equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Consults with training support personnel for the purpose of developing an organized, comprehensive and highly motivating curriculum.
  • Consults with maintenance and maintenance support managers to determine instructional requirements.
  • Monitors the impact of training for long-term effectiveness in achieving client’s maintenance objectives.
  • Conducts training sessions using the latest methods and insights into adult learning and education, both theory and practice.
  • Supervises students, both SAM and hourly, to ensure optimal work management while they are in a training session.
  • Serves as a cross-trained backup instructor in a secondary field of technical training.
  • Responsible for interpreting all appropriate technical memos, service bulletins and notices on relevant topics.
  • Assists client in designing and amending maintenance inspection procedures.
  • Analyzes and diagnoses E&E maintenance problems.
  • Provides trouble-shooting assistance to mechanics in the field and technical assistance to front line managers.
  • Physically demonstrates procedures and verifies students’ ability to perform procedures as required.
  • When needed, ensure maintenance functions are properly performed by students so equipment can be returned to operation.
  • Continuously develops and maintains expertise in E&E technical areas.
  • Interfaces with various government regulatory agencies on E&E maintenance and inspection issues.
  • Maintains contact with counterparts in other transit agencies to keep abreast of current developments.
  • Evaluates tools and equipment used by clients for safety applications and proper usage.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the function and structure of the Operations Training Department.
  • Works with the Maintenance Department to develop and recommend policies, practices and procedures for the maintenance of E&E equipment and tools to ensure the efficient provision of services.
  • Identifies E&E maintenance problem areas and recommends improvements.
  • Remains vigilant about any situations or conditions which may impact or impair the safety of SEPTA customers, maintenance personnel, equipment or employees.
  • Coordinates with System Safety, Operations and E&E to promote safe work practices.
  • Resolves issues and responds to inquiries with a minimal degree of supervision.
  • Serves as a temporary backup to the position of Chief Instructor when needed.
  • Represents SEPTA as an expert witness for technical subject matter in litigation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
