The Autonomous Vehicle Depot Operations Lead is the onsite management anchor, responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the autonomous vehicle fleet and the Depot Support team. This role requires a hands-on leader who can drive process excellence, manage a team, and ensure every vehicle is mission-ready according to strict safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Logistics, Engineering, or a related technical field is strongly preferred Or equivalent practical experience in a high-volume operations environment will be considered.
  • Experience: 3+ years of proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a fast-paced environment, such as logistics, fleet management, mobility services, or a technology-driven operation.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency with data analysis tools (Excel, Google Sheets) and experience using operations management software/dashboards (e.g., WMS, ERP).
  • Leadership: Demonstrated success in coaching, developing, and holding a diverse team accountable to measurable operational goals.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a history of using data to drive operational decisions and process improvements.
  • Physical: Willingness to be hands-on, work in both indoor and outdoor depot environments, and be available for on-call duties or flexible shifts as required by a 24/7 operation.
  • Licensing: Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership and Management Supervision: Directly manage, mentor, and coach a team of Depot Support Specialists, Fleet Deployment Specialists, and/or Technicians across multiple shifts.
  • Scheduling & Workforce Management: Create and manage daily staffing plans, schedules, and shift rotations to ensure appropriate coverage for 24/7 operations, balancing cost efficiency with operational demand.
  • Training & Development: Conduct new-hire onboarding, continuous safety training, and performance coaching; identify skill gaps and provide feedback to central training teams.
  • Performance Management: Set clear performance expectations (KPIs), conduct regular performance reviews, and address personnel issues, driving a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Operational Execution: Oversee all depot processes, including AV charging/fueling, cleaning, sensor calibration, hardware installation/removal, and pre-deployment quality checks, ensuring 100% compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Quality Control: Establish and conduct daily quality audits and checks on vehicle readiness to ensure vehicles meet the highest standards for safety, cleanliness, and operational performance before dispatch.
  • Facility Management: Manage daily depot logistics, including vehicle staging, flow, inventory of parts/supplies, and coordination of facility maintenance and infrastructure (e.g., charging stations).
  • Escalation Point: Serve as the primary escalation point for all depot-related incidents, technical failures, and field support needs; lead initial root-cause analysis (RCA) and implement immediate corrective actions.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Monitor and report on key operational metrics (KPIs) such as vehicle availability, depot throughput, charging efficiency, and incident rates. Translate data insights into actionable improvement plans.
  • Process Optimization: Drive a Kaizen or continuous improvement mindset. Identify inefficiencies in depot processes and collaborate with engineering, safety, and product teams to implement new systems and streamlined SOPs.
  • Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company safety, quality, and environmental protocols.
  • Liaison: Act as the primary operational point of contact between the depot team and central stakeholders (e.g., Software Engineering, Fleet Maintenance, Safety, and Dispatch).
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate with third-party vendors for vehicle service, facility maintenance, and supply chain logistics.
