Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news. We’re looking for a Fire TV Team Lead to own the day-to-day technical execution and delivery of our Fire TV streaming applications. In this role, you’ll lead a pod of engineers responsible for building, releasing, and operating Fire TV experiences that deliver reliable live and VOD streaming to millions of users. This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll spend time writing code while also managing developers, driving sprint planning & execution, owning releases, and ensuring quality and operational readiness. You’ll partner closely with product, backend, infrastructure, and QA teams to deliver consistent playback behavior and a high-quality user experience on Fire TV devices. This is a hybrid position based in Knoxville, TN, with regular collaboration across multiple teams.

Requirements

  • 5 plus years of professional Android or Fire TV development experience
  • 2 plus years of experience leading developers or owning delivery for a team
  • Strong experience building and shipping Fire TV applications
  • Deep understanding of video playback, streaming behavior, and CTV constraints
  • Experience owning releases and responding to production issues
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative leadership style
  • Ability to balance hands on development with execution and people leadership

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with live streaming, VOD, and ad supported playback on Fire TV
  • Familiarity with performance optimization on CTV devices
  • Experience working in a multi-platform CTV environment
  • Exposure to automation or test frameworks for Android based platforms

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage day-to-day developer execution within the Fire TV teams
  • Own sprint planning, backlog readiness, and day to day execution
  • Coordinate work across the pods and manage dependencies
  • Act as the primary technical decision maker for Fire TV implementations
  • Provide regular feedback, coaching, and development support to team members
  • Design, develop, and maintain Fire TV applications using Kotlin and React Native
  • Own Fire TV specific application behavior, performance, and stability
  • Ensure consistent implementation of shared playback and app patterns
  • Partner with backend and infrastructure teams on APIs and playback integration
  • Own release planning and execution for Fire TV applications
  • Submit builds to distribution channels and manage rollout strategies
  • Monitor analytics, crash reporting, and playback metrics post release
  • Triage and coordinate response to issues discovered after release
  • Lead hotfixes, rollbacks, or mitigations when needed
  • Ensure high code quality through reviews, standards, and best practices
  • Partner with QA and automation engineers to improve test coverage and release confidence
  • Drive improvements in testability, monitoring, and observability within the Fire TV app
  • Identify technical debt and reliability risks and prioritize remediation
  • Work closely with Product, Design, Backend, Streaming, and QA teams
  • Coordinate delivery with other CTV platform leads to maintain consistency
  • Communicate risks, tradeoffs, and delivery status clearly
