About The Position

The Center for Teaching, Learning & Mentoring (CTLM) at the Universities of Wisconsin is seeking a higher education professional to join their team as a Teaching & Learning Developer. This role focuses on improving student learning by advancing teaching practices at UW-Madison. The developer will engage in instructional consulting and course and curriculum transformation, primarily through long-term partnerships with academic departments and initiatives like CTLM’s Include Engage Challenge (IEC) program. The IEC program involves collaboration with instructors and other CTLM staff to transform undergraduate courses, aiming to invigorate teaching and improve student learning by developing educational experiences that include, engage, and challenge all students. The position involves collaborating with evaluation staff, contributing to documentation and assessment of support, and engaging in ongoing professional learning related to evidence-based teaching, higher education innovations, change management, and instructional technologies. Requirements

  • Experience teaching credit-bearing courses in higher education
  • Experience providing instructional consulting
  • At least 2 years experience leading and collaborating on complex projects with diverse teams including instructors, administrators, and other staff
  • Demonstrated ability to foster learning environments that promote belonging and cultivate dialogue across different viewpoints
  • Effective communication skills including group facilitation, teamwork, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Master's Degree or PhD Required

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years experience developing courses and curriculum in higher education
  • Experience documenting teaching and learning practices and their outcomes
  • Working knowledge of current teaching and learning literature and evidence-based practices
  • Ability to foster and communicate about organizational change with stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Lead and co-lead course and curricular development and transformation projects with instructors, academic departments, schools, and colleges; foster relationships with partners by promoting collaboration and effective communication; provide guidance, leadership, and implementation support to instructors
  • Guide individual instructors and instructional teams through all phases of course and curricular transformation processes, from vision to implementation, including supporting teams in centering student learning and success in their course designs and teaching practices
  • Participate in CTLM working groups and contribute to CTLM programs–including class observations and individualized instructional consulting–to realize our collective mission
  • Contribute to a positive work culture by consulting with peers and leadership, and participating in community-building opportunities and cross-campus collaborations
  • Collaborate with evaluation staff and contribute to the documentation and assessment of support provided, including collecting data about teaching and learning practices and their outcomes
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning related to projects in your portfolio; professional learning topics may include evidence-based teaching and learning practices, innovations in higher education, campus initiatives, change management, instructional technologies, and facilitation skills
  • Designs and recommends teaching and learning materials and technologies and guides instructors and learners through the adoption and use of materials and technologies
  • Manages a portfolio of workshops or other engagements in collaboration with teaching and learning partners across campus
  • Consults with and advises instructors and staff about inclusive, evidence-based teaching strategies, course design, instructional technology, and university initiatives
  • Collects and acts on data about teaching and learning practices in collaboration with instructors and staff and in alignment with institutional initiatives and goals
  • May exercise non-supervisory leadership on projects and collaborations, including delegating and assigning tasks to team members and identifying outcomes and measures of success
  • Engages in professional development in the scholarship of teaching and learning, trends in higher education, campus initiatives, and instructional technologies
  • Designs and facilitates workshops or other engagements in support of teaching and learning professional development goals
  • Collaborates with campus partners and leaders to develop, evaluate, and/or implement strategic initiatives and change initiatives related to teaching and learning
  • May advise or lead stakeholders on the development of strategic and operational plans and their execution
